In Ramnicu Valcea – Romania

The new edition of the Weapons Intelligence Team (WIT) course gathers 20 students from 14 nations

The C-IED COE organised and conducted, from 12 to 30 May, a new edition of the Weapons Intelligence Team course, this time at the Combat Support Training Centre of the Romanian Armed Forces in Râmnicu Vâlcea. This outsourced location is in line with the Centre's commitment to the NATO-sponsored WIT training programme, which is included in the 2025 Programme of Work, approved by the Centre's Steering Committee.

The course brought together 20 students from 14 NATO nations, with classes taught by staff from the COE and experts from various nations: Belgium, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania and Türkiye.

The aim of the course was to provide training in Technical Exploitation Level 1 (tactical level), prior to the arrival in theatres of operations. At the end of the course, students have acquired the skills to collect, collate, evaluate and disseminate technical and tactical information on enemy capabilities directly related to their use of weapons, locations, findings, etc.

This specifically includes the investigation of IEDs and their effects, as well as the subsequent collection of debris, intelligence and information.
