The Document and Media Exploitation, Collection and Processing in Support to Attack the Networks (DOMEX) Course Gathers 12 Students from 7 Nations

Participant Collecting Intelligence During a Scenario

From 19 to 30 May 2025, the Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices Centre of Excellence (C-IED COE) conducted the first annual iteration of the DOMEX (Document and Media Exploitation) Course. The training was held at both the COE’s facilities in Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid, and at the Headquarters of the San Marcial Division of the Spanish Army in Burgos.

The course was formally inaugurated by the Director of the C-IED COE, Colonel Javier Corbacho Margallo, and brought together 12 participants representing 7 different nationalities, drawn from various armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

Designed to enhance Technical Exploitation capabilities at Level 1 (tactical level), the course focused on key disciplines including document exploitation (DOCEX), electronic media exploitation (MEDEX), mobile phone exploitation (CELLEX), and exploitation of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Upon completion, trainees are equipped to collect, preserve, extract, and analyse data and information from Collected Exploitable Material (CEM) seized in IED-related incidents. This information can then be integrated into Level 2 Technical Exploitation processes.

The course combined theoretical instruction with practical sessions in each discipline, utilizing advanced tools and software. Training was delivered with the support of a multidisciplinary team of military and civilian experts from the international community.
