Aim

The ATNOC provides NATO J2, J3, J5 and C-IED Staff Officers and Senior Staff Assistants from upper tactical (LCC, MCC, ACC, SOCC) and operational level commands with ATN related Situational Awareness. Emphasis will lay on knowledge and skills to integrate the comprehensive ATN approach across other HQ processes and disciplines (e.g. NATO OPP, intelligence, targeting and exploitation processes) in order to recommend lethal and non-lethal ways to engage all networks (threat, neutral and friendly) and to assess on the engagement effects.

Attendees

Officers (OF/2 to OF/4) and Senior NCO (OR 8 to OR 9) from across NCS, NFS, NATO nations and from the 7NNN partner nations. They should have background in Intelligence, Operations, Plans, Targeting, CT or C-IED. Law Enforcement and Intelligence Agencies are also welcomed to the course.

 

 

Attack the Networks

ATTACK THE NETWORKS (AtN) Branch is composed by subject matter experts from the Military, Law Enforcement & Intelligence Services. AtN is focusing its efforts in the development of initiatives in support of anticipatory analysis & effective planning for lethal/non-lethal engagement of networks, the understanding of the complex nature of threat networks and their interaction with neutral/friendly ones, the impulse to the widest inter-agency (Military, Law Enforcement & Security) approach against multifaceted cross-boundary threats from networks andthe hugest information sharing among the C-IED Community of Interest.

PREPARE THE FORCE (PtF) Branch comprises two Sections: C-IED Training and C-IED Lessons Learned Section. The branch deals with supporting the determination of requirements and objectives within the Alliance in the matter of multinational education, training and exercises.

In the wide C-IED “community of interest”, led by HQ SACT, the C-IED COE aims to support the harmonisation of allied C-IED training activities. In coordination with HQ SACT, they also develop advanced multinational courses for C-IED experts that deal with Doctrine, Education and Training, Evaluation and C-IED Lessons Learned.

DEFEAT THE DEVICE (DtD) branch is to analyse and compare common operational needs and possible technological solutions in order to identify capability gaps and requirements; IED Technical Analysis; Support Technical Exploitation Studies; Collect, maintain and provide information on C-IED techniques and technologies and analyse their limitations and potentials as they pertain to Defeat the Device.

DtD is to assist in the detection, recognition and location of IED components, assist in the neutralization of the intended effects of, destroy, clear, or prevent the emplacement of IED, provide protection for personnel, equipment and facilities, conduct concept development and experimentation, cooperate in R&D C-IED Projects, provide advice on standards for the development and/or evaluation of C-IED systems, promote the interoperability of C-IED electronic countermeasures and other equipment, support the NATO Defence Planning Process in the area of C-IED requirements and assist in the collection, development and dissemination of C-IED LL.
