PSYOPsNATO Operations Planner’s PSYOPS Course

The attendance to the NATO Operations Planner’s PSYOPS Course at the NATO School past March has been an excellent experience. Being divided into two phases (lectures and syndicate works), the contents and the information shared during the two-weeks course has been enriched by personal experiences, creating controversial debates, due to the attendants’ backgrounds.

For a SME of the COE, it has been a positive participation when working with other military personnel in international environment whose procedures are also NATO or similar. The interaction of ideas as well as the professionalism of all of them caused a very useful collaboration, especially to develop the phases of the COPD in the chosen scenario. It has been beneficial to collaborate in the syndicates, being able to contribute with an intelligence officer’s approach to develop the PSYOPS campaign.

DCB UNJEADL Basic Training Course

C-IED COE attended to “24th JDEAL Basic Training Course (JBTC)” in Soesterberg, The Netherlands, from 10-20 February 2020 which was organized by The Joint Deployable Exploitation and Analysis Laboratory (JDEAL), within its courses calendar.

The Basic training Course is to certify single national appointed and already qualified personnel to operate in a JDEAL Deployable Capability (JDC) according to their acquired functionalities.

The course is not to qualify on single functionalities (e.g. DOMEX, FOREX, etc.) but is to render attendees available to work as a Level 2 Exploitation Laboratory Crew, contributing with their already acquired knowledge and specializations. To do so, the Course focuses on the ability to run JDCs specific equipment applying JDEAL Standing Operating Procedures (SOP), understanding the role and interactions of each operator in-between the Laboratory, applying the whole Level 2 chain of Technical Exploitation and Analysis.

Additionally, all personnel will be trained on common Laboratory productions as: safe and security; initiate, fill-inn and validate Reports; photography of DMAT; initiate and/or continue the chain of custody.

DCB UNAnnual Discipline Conference

The C-IED COE conducted the 7th C-IED Annual Discipline Conference (ADC) on 26th and 27th February 2020. During the ADC the C-IED community of interest discussed the (NATO) Operational C-IED related Education & Training (E&T) requirements. During this iteration of the ADC it is agreed that five existing E&T requirements are considered as solved: the Fictitious Training Threat Network, the WIT Supplement in a Maritime Environment Course, the WIT T3 Course, the DOMEX Course and the Technical Exploitation Exercise. No new NATO Operational E&T requirements were identified. There are two potential new requirements, both initiated by JFCBS, but for those requirements a more detailed description is requested. In case (one of) those requirements will be considered relevant, the C-IED COE planned a potential training need analysis in September 2020.
